No. 21 York

About Them

Built circa 1890, No.21 York is a stunning Victorian Terrace building that first became Guesthouse in 1961, we have been running it as No.21 York for the past 5 ½ years as a multi award winning B&B.  

We offer 8 letting bedrooms and focus on personalised service with the little extra creature comforts of high-quality linens & towels, luxurious bathrobes & slippers and branded umbrellas for guest use. We take note of our guests likes and try to meet or exceed them wherever possible.  The biggest compliment we get is that we remember our guests names and preferences & use them on their subsequent stays too.

We are fiercely proud of the fact that our produce & supplies are local and our breakfast offering are cooked to order with many of the items being home baked or home-made.  We cater to all dietary needs & will bake gluten free breads as well as cook a selection of vegetarian options.  We want to make everything we do a celebration of Yorkshire. 

We employ two team members who are the mainstay of No.21 York, we work alongside them & lead by example the result being exceptional ratings across all booking platforms.

We believe we are inviting our guest into our home and would like to offer them a home from home environment with the added benefit of being waited on in a professional yet warm and friendly environment & true Yorkshire hospitality.

Our guests are welcome to come and go as they please and our service is informal yet personalised & maintaining the traditions of hospitality. Striving to make their experience as memorable as possible we will go the extra mile to surprise & delight our guests whenever possible. 

We love York and the surrounding countryside and it's a pleasure for us to share our local knowledge of what's on offer. We are also fiercely proud of the fact that our produce & supplies are local & want to make everything we do a celebration of Yorkshire. 

Our team work alongside us offering this homely and welcoming atmosphere, we couldn't do it without them & we are all part of the family that makes No.21 York what it is. To be shortlisted for this award again would give them recognition of the amazing work they do, especially when the recognition is from our local area.

The Grand Hotel & Spa, York

About Them

Built in 1906 as the North Eastern Railway Headquarters, The Grand, York's only five-star hotel, boasts a stately character with sweeping stone staircases, original wood panelling, parquet flooring and acres of marble. The extravagance and grandeur is all a reminder of the buildings former status as an icon of the golden age of railway travel.

Now reborn as a hotel, but retaining its original splendour, with its intricate stonework and marble detailing, The Grand, York features beautiful public spaces, extraordinarily spacious rooms, two restaurants and bars, meetings and conference rooms, an executive lounge, a spa and a state-of-the-art cookery school.

Situated next to the ancient walls that enclose the city centre, and with views of York Minster, the hotel is located at a historical crossroads - the perfect place to explore the city.

Why Should They Win?

The Grand, York has held it's five-star status since it opened in 2010 due to its unique interiors, its evolving outlets and its warm, Yorkshire service. Upon arrival, friendly doormen and Concierge take your bags and begin the seamless check-in journey with you and from there the service persists, whether in the spa, restaurants, bars, event spaces or cookery school.

Although The Grand boasts 207 bedrooms,  some originally built in 1906 and some built in 2018, all are kept in impeccable condition.

The Grand goes to great extremes for the environment but also to help build tourism in York. Currently, the hotel is working to eliminate all single-use plastic by 31st December 2019 and has a sales team that targets inbound tourism from Germany, USA and China.

The Smart 27

About Them

From outside, The Smart 27 looks exactly like any other terraced house on a quiet street in York, but as soon as you step inside, a magical world unfolds! The Smart 27 is the first smart holiday house in Yorkshire; here you will experience the comforts of home automation, from lighting, to heating, audio, video, and access control. Everything is integrated and extremely easy to use.

A little tap on the switch on your bedside will turn your favourite music on and open the blinds as you wake up. The underfloor heating in the bathroom and kitchen, as well as zoned heating for every room, will give you extra comfort. Even the shower is automated, with its controls set within the bathroom tiles.

The hidden projector will turn the living area into a cinema room with the touch of a button.

The interiors have been carefully thought out; each bedroom has been themed with Earth and Sky in mind, every piece of furniture has been hand-picked to suit the style of the property, and nothing has been left to chance. The quirky lighting design plays a major part in the overall look of the house.

The Smart 27 pride themselves in offering a unique experience that guests cannot get anywhere else in York. They strive for making each stay tailored to guests' taste and they go the extra mile to make it happen!

Hotel Indigo York

About Them

Hotel Indigo York is a beautiful, 103 bedroom 4* boutique hotel, located in Walmgate, within the city walls on one of the oldest streets in York.

They provide top quality rooms that guests love and the whole hotel is themed around the city of York and it's history. Where possible everything is locally sourced; from the sausages they serve at breakfast to the toiletries in the luxury bathrooms. They pride themselves on their Yorkshire heritage and this is embraced by the passionate staff.

They are also home to the No.88 Walmgate restaurant which is currently shortlisted for a Family Dining restaurant of the year award.

Why Should They Win?

Our team at the hotel work tirelessly day in day out to  provide a number one experience for our guests; we love our Yorkshire heritage and are so proud of the hotel and reputation we've established. We receive consistently good scores on Trip Advisor but more importantly than just words we get to know our guests on a personal level. We love to find out about why our guests are visiting and tailor their stays to their exact needs; nothing is too much! 

We proudly won hotel of the year at the IHG awards in 2018 and have been commended for all the extra work we put in daily.  For the past 3 consecutive years we've been finalists in the Visit York Tourism awards but are yet to bring it home. Alongside this our restaurant No.88 Walmgate has been shortlisted in to the final 4 of a Family Dining experience award. 

Our cleanliness of both bedrooms and public areas in the hotel has been consistently fed back as fantastic with a 94% guest satisfaction rating over the last 12 months. On top of this we can boast about our 90% guest overall experience satisfaction rating.

We like to keep things simple, get the basics right and then everything else flows naturally. We're so proud of our achievements and know the only way is to keep going up!

The Principal York

The Suites enjoy listed interior details to help soak up the history of the hotel whilst peaking out of the double-height sash windows which open onto three acres of manicured gardens, secluded water fountain and uninterrupted views of the iconic York Minster.

We should win because we have taken a popular subject on the York scene and provided something for both locals and tourists to enjoy that is not available anywhere else in York. We have created something different, fun, unique and creative.

We have already reached a finalist position for the Visit York Awards newcomer of the year after only being open for 6 months. We have worked closely with a number of businesses to create promotions and even featured on Minster FM!
