The Patisserie Malton

About Them

The Patisserie Malton is situated  in the heart of Malton, they are an independent patisserie, café and shop. You can come and treat yourself and enjoy their delicious homemade cakes victuals sweet and savory.

The Patisserie is a beautiful location to sit down and relax and take in the vista of the town, or collect something tasty to take away if you're on the go.

They also provide fantastic lunches and deserts to companies in and around Malton and cakes, afternoon teas for private party when requested.

Why Should They Win?

After working at various pubs and cafes, the owner of The Patisserie Malton decided it was time to open his own business, a small sandwich shop in Newbiggin in 2011, which was a success.

Yet, he set his sights even higher, and his love always remained in patisserie. So, he eventually secured a site on Saville Street in Malton with the help of Fitzwilliam Malton Estate and worked hard to turn the former kitchenware shop into the bustling café he envisaged.

That was five years ago, and it's become a firm local favorite for delicious coffees, teas, bakes, breakfast, lunches and afternoon teas. 

With the help of the fantastic team The Patisserie Malton work hard on providing a quality service and an ear to talk to with the locals and the coffee shop is a lovely stop for a break in your day. 

Most of the food and cakes are made on site with the owner and the team providing tasty and good quality food for visitors and locals to enjoy. 

The Bothy at Dean's Garden Centre

About Them

Dean's Garden Centre is a family run business and was opened in December 1968. The original Bothy was built in July 1991, as part of a major re-development at the Garden Centre. Due to the ever growing popularity of The Bothy, a new, larger purpose built Coffee Shop was built and opened in March 2017.  

The new Bothy is a pleasure to visit and they have many regular customers and local groups that meet up. They have a large spacious indoor seating area with different styles of comfortable seating and a family area which includes a small children's activity area to help keep younger guests entertained, plus a large outside seating area where you can relax and connect with the beautiful plants in the Garden Centre.  They have a large car park and are fully wheelchair and pushchair accessible.

As a business they are proud of their roots in the community and they think it's important to show their appreciation by supporting local charities. Every year their staff nominate a Charity of the Year and since 2002 they have raised over £295,000 for a range of excellent causes.

Why Should They Win?

They would like to win the best Cafe or Tearoom award, as it would confirm what many of the regular and loyal customers tell The Bothy on a daily basis. 

They pride themselves in offering an excellent menu choice made using high quality ingredients and use as much locally sourced ingredients as possible.  The menu includes a selection of vegetarian and vegan options, plus they have a separate menu from non-gluten containing ingredients and a daily specials board. They also offer a smaller portion for many of their main meals, which is a popular choice for children or anyone who prefers a lighter meal. They serve a selection of speciality teas and coffees as well as a selection of cold beverages. 

They have an enthusiastic team of talented, friendly, knowledgeable, motivated and committed staff both in the kitchen and front of house and they are very proud with how they all work together so well. They are The Bothy's greatest asset and offer a high level of customer service, so winning the award, would give them the recognition and acknowledgement from the customers that they deserve. It would confirm that the standards The Bothy are aiming to reach, have been achieved.      

The Balloon Tree Farmshop & Café

About Them

Over the past 16 years The Balloon Tree Cafe has been catering to York's local inhabitants and visiting tourists. They strive to provide a service which is customer focused and accommodates a wide audience. The food they serve tries to be a testament and true representation of the great produce that the local area has to offer. Through the seasons they exhibit some of their home-grown produce, starting in April with asparagus, moving through the summer months with Strawberries and other soft fruit and ending in October with home grown pumpkins. 

In addition to the fresh food coming out of the Kitchen, their in-house award winning Bakery is also a prominent part of the business and reputation. Head Baker Simon's Strawberry Roulade is always a firm favourite, but should you have a more restrictive diet, he has gluten and vegan options a plenty. 

Whether it be breakfast, lunch, tea & cake, family dining, a business meeting or Sunday lunch, here at The Balloon Tree they strive to settle any appetite. 

Why Should They Win?

From the core staff to part time weekend workers, the cafe and kitchen team work tirelessly. An award such as this would show them that it does not all go unrecognised and spur them on to continue working in the same manner.  

The customers experience is always at the centre of The Balloon Tree's philosophy and with York's ever developing Food & Drink scene it is imperative that those of us away from the city centre still make ourselves relevant and worth the visit. They do as much as they can with exciting menu updates, a wide offering and relaxing atmosphere, but with a prestigious award such as the Listener Choice Award, it would really help keep the Balloon Tree Cafe on the map. 

Crumbs Cupcakery

About Them

Crumbs Cupcakery is a small independent, yet lovely tearoom and cupcake shop just beside York's biggest attraction The Minster. Not only are the cakes delicious, but the business is owned by the two lovely twins Charlotte and Jen Davison, who throughout their two years of owning the business have brought their joyous and bubbly personalities to the community of York!

They serve freshly made cupcakes that are baked on side by the small and dedicated team. They also cater for the special days of their customers on their wedding days or birthdays!

Why Should They Win?

Crumbs Cupcakery really value the high quality and design of their cakes and they are baked according to popular demand and customer's needs. They take lots of requests and everyone is always satisfied! We take great care with food safety, and go above and beyond with customer service.

They are fully customer focused to which we have many regulars. They bake everything fresh in order to give the best experience to customers. The cafe is a relaxed and nice place to come to have tea and cake and also to work. They treat everyone the same in the cafe and cater for the special days in customers lives. 

They have worked hard on their social media to make sure they post everyday! They also attend a lot of festivals away from York to get the brand known around the country.

Hovingham Bakery & The Rolling Pin Cafe

About Them

Hovingham Bakery & The Rolling Pin Cafe is based in Hovingham. A small quiet countryside village in North Yorkshire. They are a small family run cafe and bakery with a big heart.

Why Should They Win?

They proudly produce 95% of what they sell made from local producers. They always listen to their customers and tailor things according to the feedback given. They have the most beautiful location to sit, near the ford to relax & watch the world go by. They pride ourselves on what they serve and of course happy customers!

The Grange Coffee Shop and Garden Centre

About Them

The Grange is a unique coffee shop located in the picturesque village of Askham Richard. The Grange offers a great range of homemade sandwiches, light lunches and snacks as well as a variety of homemade cakes and treats.

Sounds pretty normal for a coffee shop right....... The Grange is run by the female residents of HMP Askham Grange, allowing them to gain skills and real life work experience in customer service and hospitality!

Why Should They Win?

The Grange enables its staff to reduce their risks of reoffending by gaining invaluable skills and experience whilst offering the local community a fantastic service. The women work hard to go over and above in offering a top customer experience, leaving customers eager to visit again.

It's not always easy for our women to reintegrate with the local community however, through determination and hope of a better future The Grange sees it's staff flourish. Without the support of its loyal customers none of this would be possible.

A win wouldn't just be for the women, it would be for the community!
