Helmsley Open Air Swimming Pool

About Them

Helmsley Open Air Swimming Pool is Yorkshire's only heated 25 metre open air pool. We offer affordable outdoor swimming with a holiday atmosphere. The pool is a hidden gem, nestling in the North York Moors National Park.

Parking on site is free and we and are situated beside the Helmsley Recreation area and playground, and as such, a visit to the pool offers a great family day out! We also run a number of special events for all the family ranging from moonlight swims to our popular aquathlon series.

Why Should They Win?

The pool celebrates its 50th birthday this year, but recently faced closure. It is truly a hidden gem, but 'hidden' meant underused and falling into disrepair.

Running the pool is overseen by a dedicated team of volunteers who came to the conclusion that the best way to prevent closure was to ensure people knew about the pool and came to use it; social media, signage and special events have contributed to increased usage, and alongside some funding and donations we have begun to improve what is a fabulous facility for the local community and those who travel from further afield.

The pool aims to be inclusive and all the family are welcome; although some improvements have been made to facilitate this, including a refurbished pool tank, new 'soft' pool surround and recently installed hoist, the changing rooms are in desperate need of an update so that we can improve the experience for everyone who attends.

Winning an award would not only celebrate the hard work of our volunteer team, it would raise awareness of the pool, increase the number of people using it, and allow us to begin the next phase of improvements looking forward to the next 50 years.

It's a new style of entertainment; you're 'locked' in a room where there will be a series of puzzles, brainteasers and challenges that you must solve using your common sense, working as a team and by thinking outside of the box.

Some of these are harder than others, and they all test a different skill, so there is something for everyone but none are complete freebies!

Why Should They Win?

We provide immersive entertainment for all ages and types of groups. From Hen parties to birthday parties, Work do and school groups we cater for everyone and everyone enjoys our challenging and fun puzzles.

We also make sure that our attraction is full immersive, making sure our rooms are themed around the story of the room and even providing a mini theatrical performance to explain the 'mission' before teams either the room. We pride ourselves on delivering quality entertainment to all.

Shadows of York Ghost Walk

About Them

Shadows of York is a tour that combines the dark and gruesome history of York including it many haunted tales both old and new. Visitors come from all over the world to York and many select the your due to its diversity and its top rated reviews on Trip Advisor. Everyone leaves the tour feeling happy, educated, horrified and above all entertained. 

The tour unlike many others is designed for smaller groups so that they can enjoy the full experience without struggling to see or hear and can enjoy the more personal feel and ability of being able to talk to the guide and ask any questions they may have about the city. 

This is managed by people booking online rather than just turning up on the evening and tickets are limited to a maximum of 25 per night. Private tours are also available for delegates, schools or anyone wanting that more personal experience.

I have worked incredibly hard on the tour since its conception 4 years ago and still continue to research Yorks history in order to keep the tour fresh and different for each visitors experience so that they may visit again and again... Which they do!

I to date of writing this have 118 great reviews on Trip Advisor and no bad ones (may it continue!)

Thirsk Birds of Prey Centre

About Them

A bespoke birds of prey centre with the largest flying team of birds in the North this large team of birds including 16 Eagles allows us to focus on quality flying displays that allows the birds to display natural behaviour and as ambassador birds we are able to promote and support various conservation projects around the world.

We also deliver various hands on experience days for customers that want to experience the thrill of a bird of prey coming to your gloved hand.

Why Should They Win?

The small team of centre staff work extremely hard to ensure that the care that our birds received is the best possible, they sacrifice a lot of free time to maintain our high standards that allows the centre to deliver a fun and engaging experience for our customers but not to the detriment of our birds welfare and to be recognised for their commitment and sacrifice would be a lovely reward for them to receive.
